A Survey plan is a document that measures the boundary of a parcel of land to give an accurate measurement and description of that land. Land comes in different sizes and shapes but the standard shape is either a square or a rectangle. Land sizes show us the area of the land,
In Nigeria, the two major parameters known for measuring land to give the total area to know the sizes are meters and feet. The use of feet is the more popular parameter against the use of recent meters. Some people would prefer you tell them the size of the land in feet instead of meters. One client told me that he believes people are using their feet to cheat others. It is not only the use of distance that is used to determine the area of a piece of land. The angle makes up part of the calculated factors to get the area of any land.
Here is a sketch showing the difference in angles when measuring land.

A quack surveyor can still cheat you and reduce your land size even when the length and width of the land is the right one but the angle is not at the right point. You need a professional to help get the right size for your land.
To convert from one metric unit to another and vice versa is based on simple arithmetic as shown below:
Metric Conversion
1ft = 0.3m
To convert from Feet to Meters
Multiply both the length & width figures in feet by 0.3m.
Example: 60ft will be 60 X 0.3m =18m, 120ft will be 120 x 0.3m=36m
To convert from Meters to Feet
Divide both the length & Width figures in Meters by 0.3m.
Example: 18m /0.3m = 60ft. & 36m/0.3m =120ft

Acres and Hectares
An acre of land comprises six plots of land, while a hectare is two and a half acres of land, which is equivalent to fifteen plots of land.
Corner Piece Land
A corner piece of land is land bounded by two to three roads such that you can access it at two or more points.
However, based on the fixed supply of land and other factors, the standard size of the land is not the same in all parts of the country. It varies. Every region has what we term a standard plot of land in the locality. Check below:
